Harry/Hermione AU: stuck between separate worlds
In the process of sacrificing his life in order to defeat Lord Voldemort, Harry’s soul splits apart from his body. His only way of connecting himself to the wizarding world at present time is through a broken mirror that hung forgotten in Aberforth’s wall. After months of the dark lord’s disappearance, the war has come to an end, leaving everyone wondering, “Where has the Dark Lord gone? Where IS Harry Potter?”
Aberforth took shelter in Hogwarts, paying his respects to his departed brother. Everyone went on with their lives, hopes of Harry’s survival slowly thinning. Hermione and Ron had unsettling feelings in terms of the whereabouts of their best friend so they went separate ways in order to find him. In the process, Hermione began writing the details of the war. She went to every place they have traveled past in their search of the horcruxes.
She went to Aberfoth’s house. In the silence of the room, she heard a whisper, Hermione. She turned around to see the face of a familiar boy in the broken mirror, the darkness playing shadows on his face.
She walked towards the mirror and pressed her palm to the cold glass. Harry, where have you been, she whispered, choking a sob.
